That failed so badPeople said it was "rushed", but little to realize the VERY probable theory that once the reforming spells were consumed, it permeated his body allowing him to be reformed WAY easier.

If that's the case... that episode is by far one of the crowned top best of how excellently executed it was (with mega tiny exceptions, but just only one)

Twilight never HAD to use the reforming spells in the first place! Keeping in mind Discord is sometimes arrogant, he thought he was playing one step ahead: which he was, but! Little to his realizing, it was a literal double-edged sword that cut both ways.
It hit Twilly AND Discord both, even if the outcomes were different.
